Everything About Moroccan Avocado Exports
Answers to common buyer inquiries regarding varieties, calibers, harvest season, packaging, and reefer shipping.
What is Fuerte Avocado?
The Fuerte avocado is a classic, high-quality variety prized for its exceptionally creamy, buttery texture and rich, nutty flavor with hints of citrus. It has a distinctive pear shape, a smooth, thin green skin that stays green even when ripe, and a slightly lighter oil consistency than Hass.
What is Hass Avocado?
The Hass avocado is the most popular commercially grown variety in the world, recognized by its oval shape and thick, pebbly skin that darkens from green to purplish-black as it ripens. It is prized for its rich, creamy flesh and nutty flavor, making it a global market leader.
Where are Hass avocados grown in Morocco?
In Morocco, Hass avocados are primarily grown along the northwestern Atlantic coastal plain of Gharb, between Larache and Kenitra (including Moulay Bousselham and Sidi Allal Tazi), benefiting from temperate ocean air and sandy-loam soils.
What is the harvest season for Hass and Fuerte avocados in Morocco?
In Morocco, the avocado harvest season runs from October to January. Fuerte, an early variety, is harvested from October to December, and Hass from November to January.
What is the main difference between Hass and Fuerte avocados?
Hass has thick pebbly skin that turns black when ripe and richer, oilier flesh; Fuerte has smooth thin green skin that stays green and a lighter, buttery texture. In Morocco, Fuerte opens the season in October and Hass extends it until January.
What sizes (calibers) of Hass and Fuerte avocados do we export?
We export a full commercial range from Caliber 12 (largest, ~300–380 g) to Caliber 24 (smallest, ~165–185 g). Contact us for specific buyer distributions.
How are the avocados packed for export?
Our avocados are packed in 4 kg cartons (single-layer cell trays) and 10 kg cartons, engineered to protect the fruit during maritime transit and preserve shelf-life.
What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ)?
Our typical MOQ is one full 40-foot refrigerated container (1 × FCL Reefer, approx. 20 pallets or 2,200–2,400 cartons) to ensure cost-effective and secure shipping.
How do you ensure the avocados arrive fresh?
We employ a cold-chain logistics process: avocados are pre-cooled immediately after packing and shipped in temperature-controlled reefer containers (+5°C to +7°C) directly to your destination port.
Can I complete an avocado container with other Moroccan products?
Yes. Le Marocain Fruits & Nuts also exports tomatoes, bell peppers, citrus, seedless Nadorcott mandarins, table grapes, carrots, watermelons and fresh herbs. Mixed loads are possible depending on temperature compatibility and season.
